No detail was overlooked to accomplish The Lafayette Hotel’s ambitious vision of creating a “city within a city.” The use of carefully selected materials such as elaborate hand drawn wallpapers, plush House of Hackney upholstery, custom light fixtures and decorative tile result in an immersive experience in which guests can discover new elements at every turn. Distinct design motifs such as fabric draped canopy beds and custom bar carts are carried throughout to give a sense of cohesion while also supporting the business or pleasure sought after by visitors. Poolside suites feature custom Moroccan terracotta tile and utilize a brighter color pallet while rooms in the main building have lush maroon carpet and saturated wall tones. The on-site food and beverage concepts each offer a unique nod to the past, signifying their own moments in time through clear aesthetic markers: the chrome-filled 24/7 eatery harkens back to the heyday of American diner culture; the moody candle-lit Mezcalería includes a reassembled church altar from Oaxaca; the cocktail lounge/bowling alley references the basement game room housed within New York’s Henry Frick Museum; and the underground music venue and supperclub brings the glitz and glamor of 1920’s jazz club culture back to life.

  1. I was very sad to see the Red Fox Inn leave its original space and I still wish it were there. But I have to say that I was surprised and a bit delighted to see what transpired here. I can see there was no expense spared here and it does bring a feeling of luxury to El Cahon Blvd.
