The Baby Grand is a new 31-room boutique hotel from the minds of acclaimed San Diego hospitality group, CH Projects. Inspired by Coronado’s early beach culture and places lost to time, this marks the second collaboration between CH Projects and award-winning design studio Post Company; their first is the beloved the Lafayette Hotel & Club in San Diego’s North Park neighborhood. With lush, overgrown landscaping veiling a layered world of private lagoons, secret jewel box bars, sculpted rock formations and open-fire dining, the Baby Grand embraces the romance of rediscovery for an entirely new Coronado hospitality experience.

CH Projects and Post Company envisioned the Baby Grand as a social hub and neighborhood gathering place for the island. Once an asphalt parking lot, the 6,000-square-foot site features mature plantings, gas-lit torches and partially-hidden statues evoking a site reclaimed by nature – perhaps a long-forgotten hotel once a princely stopover and slowly overtaken by time – while planted trellises and tented structures recall early expedition camps along the Coronado coast.

In addition to the guest rooms, the Baby Grand features two full service restaurants. Night Hawk channels the primal energy of Greek fire cooking through an otherworldly lens, embracing the Pacific breeze, shifting light, and horizon in a way that echoes the rhythm of the Greek islands, where life unfolds in open air and time moves more slowly. The outdoor restaurant is integrated into the property’s landscape and set among lush greenery, gas-lit torches, partially-hidden statues, a towering waterfall and rock-formed booth seating. At Fallen Empire, intimate, low lighting sets the stage for an almost clandestine evening. The reservation-only jewel box bar features mirrored walls; solid-brass booths upholstered in red mohair with built-in champagne buckets and padded armrests; and an ornate mosaic floor depicting life under the sea.

Blending fantasy, history and hospitality, the Baby Grand Crown City reimagines Coronado’s timeless charm, inviting guests and locals alike to step into a world suspended between memory, imagination and modern-day exploration.
