The artist duo Fallen Fruit, in collaboration with the community, created the San Ysidro Community Fruit Tree Park as part of the City of San Diego’s public art initiative, here comes the neighborhood. This artwork has transformed an underutilized area in San Ysidro Community Park into a vibrant community fruit park, filled with a variety of fruit trees that provide fresh fruit accessible for public harvesting. Thanks to the diverse selection of fruits, community members can enjoy fresh produce year-round.

This project is interactive and collaborative, using fruit trees and neighborhood engagement to create a participatory public artwork. By incorporating fruit as a medium, it activates new ways for neighborhoods to use and reimagine public space. The fruits can be easily shared by park visitors, fostering community building and neighborly generosity. Overall, the project promotes different ways to share, interact, and collaborate within the community.

  1. This is awesome! What an amazing way to transform an underutilized area into a community food resource. Would love to see more of these pop up throughout San Diego.
