Oceanside Transit Center Parking Structure Mural by Jonny Pucci

The Oceanside Transit Center Parking Structure mural transforms a highly visible but utilitarian structure into a welcoming landmark reflecting Oceanside’s history, environment and coastal identity. Artist Jonny Pucci organized the mural into three interconnected sections that respond thoughtfully to the building’s unusual multistory façade.

A Spanish tile-inspired pattern references Southern California’s architectural heritage and incorporates designs drawn from Oceanside’s original 1946 train station. A school of tuna follows the exterior staircase, using the architecture to create movement while recognizing the region’s fishing history. The composition culminates in a dynamic 30-foot wave facing the ocean and capturing the energy of the Pacific just blocks away.

The mural demonstrates how site-specific public art can transform civic infrastructure, strengthen community character and create a memorable arrival experience. Rather than treating the parking structure as a blank surface, the design uses its shape, orientation and location to tell a cohesive story about Oceanside for transit riders, pedestrians and motorists.
