Located near downtown Tijuana, the project involved converting a 430 sqft existing shop into a nail salon bar.
The project is designed in two phases: first, the space itself, and then the objects within it. Given the shop’s dimensions, the space design aims to amplify the room using a repetitive grid with a single material across a continuous surface. We selected 2″ x 2″ locally sourced, handmade ceramic white tiles with green grout, which matches the color of the existing window frames. This design leverages natural daylight to reflect and bounce artificial light, creating an optimal workspace for employees and a unique, memorable atmosphere for clients.
Complementing the space are custom-made furniture pieces, designed and digitally fabricated by us. We chose a mix of thin metals (1/8″ steel, aluminum) and light-colored carpentry, with certain furniture elements and upholstery in pink to reflect the brand colors. The countertop is made of thin white Krion, and the pendant lights are crafted from aluminum.
The design intention was to create a timeless space independent of the objects within it. The function of the space is defined by the objects and their relationships, allowing for evolution and change over time.
