The half-acre Linda Vista Community Garden is the first community garden built within a City of San Diego public park. Led and operated by Bayside Community Center, a 90-year-old local nonprofit, the garden includes community rental plots, an outdoor classroom, a greenhouse, 22 raised beds, picnic areas, shade structures, fruit trees, and native pollinator gardens.
The original Linda Vista Community Garden at Bayside was established in 2011 but removed in 2017 during building renovations. Reestablishing the garden was especially important because Linda Vista is a USDA-designated food desert, with more than two-thirds of residents considered low-income. The new garden was realized through a grassroots effort supported by dozens of funding partners, in-kind labor and services, and hundreds of community volunteer hours. It restores an essential neighborhood resource while advancing community goals of self-sufficiency, healthy nutrition, education, and cultural appreciation.
Today, the Linda Vista Community Garden provides community members with access to fresh produce and hands-on learning. Through programs, produce donations, and low-cost plot rentals, its impact reaches well beyond the garden’s boundaries.

this is a wonderful place. beautiful and serving a most meaningful purpose of feeding our community and teaching folks the art of growing food.
The Linda Vista Community Garden CHANGED my life and SAVED my family. Without this garden, I would be under the ground instead.
A beautiful garden, so well designed and great for the community!
Something I dream for every community.
Kudos to Linda Vista for the community support of the garden. From wheel barrows of dirt to planting of seeds, the volunteers are humbled by the results. Thank you Amy Zink, gardener extraordinaire, and Bayside.
This is a beautiful escape and sanctuary in the middle of the city, that brings the community together with a sense of purpose. I love that the food grown is distributed to people in need via the community center. I hope more communities take inspiration from what the Linda Vista Community Garden is doing. It goes deeper beyond the beauty of its landscaping architecture and creates an irreplaceable and meaningful bond within the community.
So happy for you.
