Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel is a newly remodeled boutique hotel along the Old Spanish Trail on Old Highway 80.
The town was originally brought to life by San Diego Mayor Bert Vaughan in the 1920s. Our hotel, built in the 1950s, was a destination for travelers and Hot Spring enthusiasts. The remodeled hotel, opened in 2023, has a bar, restaurant, three mineral hot spring pools and spacious, communal outdoor areas that host live music every weekend. In the remodel, we were intentional with material and finish selections and careful to use sustainable, conscious design throughout the property. We used wood, stone, ceramic and handmade materials and finishes throughout. Local lava rock was gathered and used for walls and planters throughout the property and we left the natural desert earth as the flooring for the exterior common areas. It is meant to be a grounding experience for guests and staff alike. Outdoor shade structures were built using eucalyptus timber from North Africa and reclaimed wood from the previous hotel was used to build doors and gates. The goal was to allow the natural surroundings of the Sonoran Desert be the star and maintain the integrity of the small town of 550 locals who frequent the pools, bar and restaurant. The hotel is a gathering place for all and welcomes everyone from out of town guests looking for an elevated experience to local community coming together for kinship. The hotel is more than just a vibe, it is an authentic human experience.

Heading there this weekend, 9/11/2026. This will be our third visit to this truly magical location. Driving in the first time was interesting but our stay was the most relaxing visit of all our destinations. The mineral pools, the food, and the ambiance are incredible. The decor is so unique.
Interior Design is often pushed as just Light and Space. But a next level designer should have an understanding of the Mystic. How a room enhances your nightly Dreaming. Is the space arranged to enhance an experience of being transported to another World. Not only from the daily labor of life, and not just a vacation of rest…but great design Surprises, great interiors shift worlds, it is the atmosphere of the Dream that has been accomplished by this designer.
A vote is easy, a visit is absolutely surreal and will make you want to tell every friend and return every year.

I cannot get out there enough. Everything about this place is magic, from the wonderful pools to soak my aging body, to the bar, the restaurant, the lake, music (including the LP selections in your room, to the relaxing and inspiring interiors of the rooms and exteriors.

I fell in love with this place. Every detail of each room you enter has been carefully planned out.
From the pierced lanterns that cast just the right patterns of light in the evening courtyards to the elegant billowing ceiling to floor curtains adding to the privacy when you first enter the ladies public changing room for the pools.
Did I mention I love this place? You just have to experience it for yourself.

We visited the hot springs for the first time last month. It was such a magical place. The spaces were just beautiful and reflected environment around them. We will definitely go again. I had done nothing but rave about this place since we got back home.

Visited last year with my Momma and we had the most glorious healing adventure there.
The design is stunning and welcoming. Pretty much my dream style. Working with the raw desert landscape everything seems to flow into the healing waters and the glorious sunsets. We have experienced many hot springs and this water is some of the best. I recommend this incredible place to everyone seeking some fun, healing and beauty. Love you Jacumba.

The Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel is a delightful property. The rooms and the casitas are serene sanctuaries. I felt the tension just melt from my body when I stayed here. I don’t know if it is the Moroccan-inspired architecture and design or the warm color palette, but the place is beautiful and an absolute joy to visit.

As a longtime resident of this area, I have been absolutely blown away by the transformation of Jacumba Hot Springs. I visited this special place for years, long before the current owners reimagined it. The mineral water has always felt magical, and the property had its own unique charm—but what has been created here today is truly inspiring.
I wish everyone judging this competition could see the before-and-after. The current owners didn’t simply renovate a property; they honored its history, embraced the extraordinary desert landscape, and brought new life to a place that means so much to our backcountry community.
And perhaps even more powerful is what this project has done beyond the walls of the resort. It has helped breathe new life into the town of Jacumba and the surrounding area, creating jobs and opportunity in a rural community where both have historically been limited. You can feel the ripple effect of this investment throughout the community.
This is what thoughtful architecture and redevelopment can do at their very best: preserve the soul of a place while helping an entire community come alive again.

I’ve been visiting the Jacumba Hotsprings Hotel for 16 years and the recent transformation has brought life, art, and music to our community in a new way. The hotel and pools are visually pleasing. I haven’t seen inside any of the rooms but I imagine they’re beautiful. I’ve always loved the mineral waters and now I love the hotel too! It’s a vibe.
When I saw the hotel go up for sale, I wanted to buy it and I can honestly say I’m grateful I didn’t because I would not have been able to bring to life the kind of vision the current folks have. The attention to detail and the desert oasis vibe are so well done. Truly a piece of art.

I was so absolutely inspired by the restoration of this hidden gem! I stayed here for my birthday weekend mid August and must say every design detail was so thoughtful. I have been in the high end design world for over 40 years. We had an amazing Casita and my friends hotel room was also great! The mix of vintage, new, rustic was very well-done. Very comfortable beds, gorgeous bathrooms/tile work, special touches like the kitchen and cute SMEG fridge, and the record player. The check in trailer and arrival cocktail, the restaurant and bar so extremely well-done (I squealed when I saw the nude paintings that were captured from the now demolidhecAlbies Beef Inn)! The food and drink menu excellent as was the live entertainment. The whole vibe of the place and the town was so spot on! I vote for them as the best of the best!

I visit this hidden gem in different seasons of the year and different times of the day and it always is magical and welcoming. Mornings with the fresh breeze and light and birds and trees above and around, evenings with sky full of stars and great music , delicious gourmet food served and prepared by friendly and personable staff.

What has been created here is not just a piece of art or a hotel in the middle of nowhere. The owners and architects have fully emersed themselves into this Wonder Vortex for years. They have lived and breathed its essence and downloaded knowledge from the stars and the Milky Way, ever so sparkling above Jacumba. They integrated this knowledge and combined it with their precise expertise in not only interior design but also in exquisitetely light, breezy and very vortexy exterior design..They mastered the reflection of the vibrational frequency of this unique energetic vortex back into the 3D reality manifesting a very magical space. Magical in its core. The magnificent entrance door, I believe its origin is Turkey and its age is close to 500 years(pardon me, if I’m wrong on the details), is a threshold. A threshold into another dimension, dare I say the 5th Dimension. This energy flows throughout the entire hotel grounds. Once you hold on to the snake door handle in the middle of a hot summer day and you enter the dark, mysterious, elegantly sexy and eclictic refuge of the deeply air-conditioned bar, you find yourself in another world. A world where materials blend together exotically. The obsidian arc dominating the bar has a cooling and empowering effect at the same time. Simply gaze at it and you ate already transported into the depths of our galaxy. Enter the bright indoor restaurant room and you find a quiet refuge surrounded by landscape paintings worth hanging in a museum. The lava rocks here are a testimony to the origin of the flowing healing waters ancient erupting volcanos gifted us with. The transition into the outdoor patios is seemless, including leaving the ground to be desert earth just as Spirit made this corner of the world. And then, then the Ritual Pool. You can get lost here, completely. Surrounded by old pine trees that have been preserved and with lighting meticulously designed into pure perfection, this is an oasis that I don’t believe you can find anywhere else in the entire world. None of the design is excessive, it is not here to impress. It is not here to blend in either. It is here, coexisting with the Vortex energy. Melissa, Corbin and Jeff have birthed an idea they not only brought into fruition. They did a damn good job. They did it from their hearts. And when you create from heart/source energy, you are rewarded with a true Gem. Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel is not only a architectural masterpiece, its owners and architects truly and fully honored what nature has created here on her own thousands of years ago. They blended in and they stood out! I hope they win because they deserve it! P.S. I am voting 10 minutes before midnight. I might be your deciding factor;) Truly, the synchronization of the High Desert atmosphere together with ancient vines creates a portal not just into another dimension but also into yourself. They created a sacred vessel and took this place from looking like a motel into a door to heaven while preserving old walls and interfering very little with the environment. 10 out of 10!
Jacuma Hot Springs has successfully created a unique relaxing and tranquil escape into the past while maintaining the comforts of today. Whether soaking in their therapeutic mineral pools day or night, or sipping decatant drinks in their historic retro bar, it’s very easy to forget you are just an hour from city life. Their food is deliciously amazing and their service and hospitality is lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated with a casual and subtle Western desert motif. Our escape was further enhanced by a record player on our room with a nice selection of Mariachi albums. We truly felt fully immersered in a private Mexican spa !!! We’ll be back soon 🌵💦🍹🌮💕😎
