Orchid 
The County of San Diego’s East Region Crisis Stabilization Unit (ERCSU) is a 14,000-sf facility designed to provide a safe, calming environment to those experiencing serious behavioral or mental health issues in the East County region.
ERCSU supports the East County community by alleviating the strain on healthcare and jail facilities and resources by helping those in behavioral crisis. It’s a calm place to recover on a short-term basis that supports healing, stability and human dignity. The CSU receives both volunteer walk-ins and those transported by ambulance or law enforcement.
Incorporating soothing colors, natural, biophilic elements and safety features to prevent self-harm, the facility supports crisis intervention, mental health assessment, therapy, medication assistance and provides other community resources.
The building was designed to Zero Net Energy standards and received LEED Gold Certification.

It was a pleasure to be part of the structural design team for this project with Aark Engineering and to collaborate with such a great multidisciplinary team.
I had the opportunity to work on a significant portion of the building’s gravity and seismic systems, as well as the exterior structures supporting the solar panels. Seeing the project come together through the coordination and efforts of the architectural, engineering, construction, and design teams has been incredibly rewarding.
Thank you to everyone involved for the collaboration and hard work that brought this project to life. I’m proud to have contributed to a facility that will provide such an important service to the East County community.
