Creekside Park is a thoughtfully designed 1.3-acre linear park located within the Civita master-planned community in Mission Valley, San Diego. Anchored by a sinuous, elevated walkway, the park gracefully spans a sculpted landscape basin and functional drainage swale, providing vital stormwater treatment and conveyance for a significant portion of the 230-acre Civita development. The basin terminates at a large damlike stone retaining wall structure inspired by the historic Old Mission Dam in Mission Trails Regional Park.

The elevated walkway connects a children’s play area, seating, picnic areas, and an off-leash dog run. The park extends from Friars Road to Civita Boulevard and is part of the network of parks in Civita that will stretch almost ¾ of a mile from Friars Road to Phyllis Place in Serra Mesa. The children’s play area features a modern geometric climbing structure, spinners, additional play equipment and picnic areas bordered by river-themed mosaic tilework by La Jolla artist Jane Wheeler. The drought tolerant and native landscape in the park offers a seasonal display of blooming plants designed to create pollinator pathways, contributing to the biodiversity of the community. The palette was also specifically curated to handle seasonal inundation within basin/swale that traverses the park.
