Built within a leftover portion of a restaurant parking lot, this compact café transforms residual space into a memorable urban gathering place. Rather than treating the site as unusable, the project demonstrates how overlooked portions of the city can be reclaimed through small-scale architectural interventions.
Designed for Chef Adria Marina, the café uses its limited footprint to create proximity between customers, staff, food preparation, and the street. The interior is organized through a restrained palette of stainless steel and wood planks. Stainless steel responds to the precision, hygiene, and durability of a working kitchen, while wood introduces warmth, tactility, and a familiar human scale. Through careful detailing, these two materials define the entire space without relying on decorative excess. Durable exterior plaster was selected to withstand constant outdoor activity and age naturally over time.
This restraint reflects a deliberate rejection of the overdesigned commercial interior. The architecture was not intended to become the main event, but rather a quiet and durable backdrop for gathering, conversation, food, and everyday interaction. By reducing visual noise, the project allows its occupants—and the social life extending onto the street—to give the place its identity.
A dark concrete semicircular bench activates a previously underused area of the sidewalk, inviting customers, neighbors, and passersby to pause and connect with the café. Now embedded in the urban landscape, the bench crystallizes the project’s central argument: civic and community value are not determined by scale, but by architecture’s ability to invite people into the life of the city. By reclaiming residual space and connecting food, architecture, and the street, the project transforms an overlooked fragment of the city into meaningful urban life.

What a great example of turning a leftover portion of a parking lot into a real urban gathering space. The material used create such a good atmosphere, precision and durability from the kitchen side, warmth and human scale from the wood, no decorative excess needed. Love that the architecture stays quiet and lets the everyday life of the café take over. Such a strong solution for a tight footprint, and a great reminder that civic value isn’t about scale.
I am actually the guy in the first photo! The design and execution of this place is amazing. It owns such an unique and beautiful vibe, that truly makes it stands out from all the other sites nearby. Another magnificent job from the geniuses at Diseño Norteño.
