Base Pair Cafe

Base Pair Cafe reimagines the workplace cafe as a welcoming social hub within the Torrey Pines bioscience community. Inspired by the idea of a “World Cafe,” the space uses layered textures, global influences, and curated decor to create a clear contrast from the surrounding laboratory environment.

The indoor-outdoor cafe is designed to encourage gathering, collaboration, and moments of pause throughout the workday. Plush seating, playful graphics, a signature squiggle motif, and a nostalgic flipboard menu add warmth and personality while making the space feel both energetic and comfortable.

Custom details elevate the experience beyond a typical campus dining space. The project successfully balances playful design with a refined aesthetic, creating an environment that feels memorable, approachable, and connected to the people who use it every day.
