Family-owned, Mediterranean small plates restaurant and bar, Bacari, introduced its warm hospitality to North Park’s iconic two-story French Quarter-inspired building at 30th and University in February 2026. The beloved space, once occupied by Urban Solace and vacant since 2019, has long been a fixture in the neighborhood. Constructed in approximately 1924, it served as Buffett’s Shoe Shop in the 1920s, North Park Furs in the 1940s, the Friendly Store (appliances and furniture) in the early 1950s and various dry cleaners/laundry businesses from the late 1950s through the 1980s.

Over the course of a year, the building was carefully restored (down to the studs), the architecturally-significant elements preserved—including its famed New Orleans-style wrought-iron balconies and railings—and its distinct yellow exterior was refreshed. The building’s second story was included in the renovation and made accessible to the public for the first time in recent history.

The restaurant’s design incorporates Bacari’s signature Old World European design aesthetic, with elements uniquely tailored to the North Park neighborhood. Co-founder Robert Kronfli personally designed (and sourced) every element of the restaurant, incorporating patinated antiques to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Layered with antique and vintage rugs, lighting, furnishings, and objects, the space feels timeworn and steeped in history. Custom-fabricated furnishings, richly patterned upholstery, colorful Mexican wall tile and rustic stonework round out the interiors. Outside, a lush, plant-filled covered patio serves as the restaurant’s entrance and provides additional seating.

  1. Nice to see that Space come back to life after being empty for so long since Urban solace. I don’t know what it’s like to eat there. The seating looks tight and it maybe a noise filled environment. I don’t know. But thanks for bringing it back!
