Torrey View life science campus provides three thoughtfully designed scientific workplace facilities and an amenity building totaling 515,000 square feet of space for biotechnology firms in San Diego. Offering exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding natural landscape, a publicly accessible landscaped plaza (mesa) unites the campus and provides connections to the outdoors, while its landscaping and the amenity building’s green roof reduces heat gain and rainwater runoff. Integrating nature and technology, the Torrey View development provides an inspiring, balanced workplace to enable scientific discovery.
The project is adjacent to a natural arroyo, and the design team took inspiration from the area’s geologic forms. The team used the sloping terrain to limit vehicular traffic on campus, locating the parking structure below grade. This approach freed up space above the parking garage for a publicly accessible plaza. The façade’s design ensures the building remains in constant dialogue with its surroundings, offering a theatrical and dynamic visual experience that shifts and evolves, mirroring the ever-changing landscape in which it resides.
