Sleek & contemporary- the newly completed Punta Lara apartments sit in Point Loma, just blocks from America’s Cup Harbor. Designed by Stephen Dalton Architects in collaboration with developer HMS Real Estate, this three-story building contains 24 luxury dwelling units consisting of a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, along with a single studio unit.
The design juxtaposes curving unit walls with the adjacent linear balconies. These two elements create an alternating pattern that breaks down the building to a scale appropriate for the surrounding single-family neighborhood. An exterior material palette of white cement plaster, patterned metal guardrails, and a warm Ipe wood siding, gives the design an elevated look that accentuates its form.
Ground level dwellings have convenient street access from individual walk-up patios connecting to Fenelon Street. On the upper floors, units are organized around a pleasantly landscaped common courtyard. The inner courtyard serves as a hub of circulation, creating opportunities for connection between residents. Taking advantage of the splendid location, units provide views out to the rest of San Diego- including the Bay, Coronado, and downtown.
