The half-acre Linda Vista Community Garden is the first community garden to be built within a City of San Diego park. The project was led and will be operated by the local 90-year-old non-profit Bayside Community Center. The garden features community rental plots, an outdoor classroom space, greenhouse, 22 raised garden beds, picnic areas, shade structures, and gardens of fruit trees and native pollinator plants.

The original Linda Vista Community Garden at Bayside was established in 2011 and uprooted in 2017 during building renovations. The need to reestablish the garden was great as the Linda Vista community is a USDA-identified “food desert” with more than two thirds of residents considered low income.

The garden was created through a grass root effort of dozens of funding partners, as well as in-kind labor and services partners along with hundreds of community volunteer hours. The new garden re-establishes an essential resource for the Linda Vista Community, promoting the community goals of self-sufficiency, healthy nutrition, education, and cultural appreciation.
