Orchid The Legacy International Center, is a multi-faith spirituality center which includes a museum, auditorium, classroom spaces, dining facilities and a hotel/spa into a campus set in the heart of San Diego’s Mission Valley. The landscape includes large plaza gathering spaces, reflection gardens, spiritual and biblical gardens as well as resort amenities. The site has been carefully designed to integrate these uses into the canyon landscape and topography.
The landscape at the Legacy Center creates a juxtaposition of its predominately California native plant wrapper with smaller garden spaces featuring native and adaptive plantings designed for various programs and gatherings including weddings and conferences. The main outdoor spaces are designed to accommodate larger events and performances yet feel comfortable day to day. The design of the spaces allows for users to understand the importance of the native-adaptive gardens in commercial landscapes and the importance of plant material on psyche.
The project incorporates integrated stormwater management into the design of native gardens that wrap the site. The design carefully designed a low-water use adaptive planting to create specialized gardens throughout the site that offer seasonal color and scents to support native fauna
