In the heart of Grossmont College, a vision took shape – a vision of innovation, sustainability, and academic excellence. The Science, Math, & Career Tech Complex (Building 36N PH II) emerged
from this vision as a testament to the college’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for its students. Spanning over 59,150 square feet across two stories, with an additional 2,240 square
foot basement storage, this complex represents more than just bricks and mortar; it embodies the future of education.
The scope of the project was ambitious, encompassing a wide array of facilities essential for nurturing learning and growth. Classrooms, offices, and tutoring facilities were meticulously designed to foster collaboration and engagement. But it didn’t stop there; landscape and site improvements were integrated seamlessly into the design, creating a conducive environment for both study and relaxation. Additionally, two 312 square foot masonry trash enclosures were constructed, reflecting the project’s attention to every detail.
The choice of construction materials and building systems was carefully curated to ensure durability, efficiency, and sustainability. A structural steel frame formed the backbone of the building, providing stability and flexibility for future adaptations. Metal stud framing facilitated efficient construction while maintaining structural integrity. The incorporation of touchless plumbing fixtures and water bottle fillers not only promoted hygiene but also promoted eco-conscious practices. Brick veneer exterior, meticulously chosen to match the campus’s aesthetic, added a touch of elegance to the structure.
Inside, innovative features awaited students and faculty alike. Noise dampening light baffles in the Veterans’ Resource Center ensured an immersive learning experience free from distractions. Acoustic clouds floated above, enhancing acoustics in lecture halls and seminar rooms. Writeable projection screens, coupled with short-throw projectors, encouraged interactive learning and dynamic presentations. An EMS (Energy Management System) and keyless security system further exemplified the building’s embrace of cutting-edge technology.
As the doors of Building 36N PH II swung open, a new chapter began in the annals of Grossmont College’s history. It stood not only as a symbol of progress but also as a beacon of hope for generations to come. In this building, the legacy of excellence continues, propelling the college towards greater heights of academic achievement and innovation.
