The County of San Diego decided to replace the aging library in the community of Lakeside through a design-build competition, and HED was selected as the architect of record and co-design architect. The new LEED Gold library is a sleek, modern structure with tall roof lines and high ceilings, creating open and inviting spaces. Contemporary materials and color palettes were used to create a fresh aesthetic, and the building’s clean architectural lines add to the modern feel. Distinct interior spaces include the children’s room, marketplace, community room, adults’ space, and lobby. Exterior spaces include the Poets’ Patio—a concept inspired by traditional Spanish patio design with enclosing walls that provide an intimate space. The site design creates a series of outdoor rooms/spaces that promote community engagement and interaction and offer connectivity to the surrounding community. The entry plaza and surrounding spaces create an environment that encourages informal interactions between staff and visitors, with the community terrace providing opportunities for small group gatherings and larger events.
Not impressed. I love libraries but this offers no inspirational design.
