Amanecer & Puesta Del Sol

This affordable housing development offers intergenerational, modern living in a neighborhood with outdated housing stock. The 96-unit, 5-story Amanecer Apartments caters to families, while the adjacent 3-story Puesta del Sol provides 60 units for seniors. Both communities maximize their proximity to the park, orienting their buildings, open spaces and amenities towards it. Each has a central courtyard with amenities suited to their different residents – BBQ areas and kids’ play structure surrounded by a fitness center and laundry at Amanecer and community garden beds, porch swing and outdoor fitness equipment at Puesta del Sol. The architecture features simple white plaster forms with colorful accents, textured fibercement panels and decorative tile and masonry. Amanecer’s design includes an elevated entrance, concealing the parking garage beneath and emphasizing the open air lobby through a colorful portal, while Puesta del Sol welcomes visitors via an exposed heavy timber arcade that connects to the front door. Puesta del Sol’s common room features a high volume space with a butterfly roof and vibrant colors that also extend onto the stair tower, which is flooded with natural light through the large corner windows. Together, they revitalize the neighborhood around the park with a fresh and modern energy.
