The 3Roots Community Center holistically embodies sustainable design and community well-being, embracing the rich history and industrial identity of its location. At the heart of the 3Roots master-planned community, it serves as a beacon of health and wellness with workout rooms, a pool, and versatile indoor/outdoor spaces enhanced with biophilic design elements, including artisan murals and green walls, promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Architecturally, the Center draws inspiration from the site’s history as a quarry, which helped to forge a sustainable future. The building’s industrial identity is emphasized by a pre-engineered superstructure clad with energy-efficient insulated metal panels, providing solar reflectivity and excellent thermal performance. High-performance glazing and large bi-fold doors seamlessly bring nature indoors while the use of large concrete drainage pipes as pool cabanas bring a fun, industrial design to the outside that honors the history of the site in a contemporary way.
The centerpiece of this design is the 50-foot-tall Ficus Tree, a striking feature set within an oculus in the building’s southern canopy. Planted at the onset of construction and protected throughout, it symbolizes the project’s commitment to sustainability, further demonstrated through incorporated features like natural ventilation and advanced building envelope systems.
