SDAF Design Film Series
GOOGiE

SDAF’s quarterly film series showcases outstanding architecture and design documentaries from around the world, giving members and the public a chance to discover new perspectives and revisit celebrated favorites. With “design” as the unifying thread, the program spans an eclectic range of topics—from green living concepts to explorations of furniture making, interiors, food, photography, landscape architecture, material sourcing, and even airstream trailer design. The screenings offer a relaxed, creative environment where attendees can sketch, socialize, and immerse themselves in fresh ideas that expand their sense of what design can be.
Our featured film of the night, GOOGiE, explores how Googie design balanced unexpectedly between a high-tech future of sweeping cantilevers and a verdant past of primeval nature. Rooted in the Organic architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and practiced by leading architects of midcentury Los Angeles Modernism, Googie expressed a Modern way to live with technology that still has relevance today.
Experience the story of Googie architecture, a style that turned ordinary roadside buildings into unforgettable landmarks and helped define the look and spirit of midcentury America.
