BARRIO LOGAN | CHULA VISTA | CITY HEIGHTS | LA MESA | NATIONAL CITY | SAN MARCOS | SOUTHEASTERN SAN DIEGO
There’s a new La Mesa in town, and you can give it a fresh look when OH! San DiegoTM2021 takes place March 5-12. La Mesa has the same great family vibe you’re used to, even as a generation of young urban creatives is putting its own unique stamp on the place. Independently run shops and restaurants now attract the same “hip” residents looking for today’s version of suburban bliss.
In La Mesa you’ll find a variety of architectural styles that run the gamut from a historic train depot to the mid-century Macy’s at Grossmont Center. The Jefferson, a future four-story, multi-family development, will bring its own value to the neighborhood once complete, and you can learn more about it during OH! San Diego 2021.
Whether you’ve never been to La Mesa or are due to give it another look, put your walking shoes on for a couple of self-guided tours worth taking. The first is a tour of downtown La Mesa. Sites include the Lookout at Legacy Park (a public art display by the Dominguez family of artists); as well as the historic train depot; service station-turned-eatery Sheldon’s Cafe; La Mesa’s Walkway of the Stars; and more. The second self-guided tour features Briercrest Park and the sculptures and art of architect James Hubbell.

La Mesa Historical Society
With a mission to promote, collect and educate people about the history of Greater La Mesa, the La Mesa Historical Society is actively engaged in preserving La Mesa’s unique heritage for future generations to see and enjoy. In hosting historical roundtables, walking tours and other events, the society connects with and educates the local community.
OH! San Diego was founded by Susanne Friestedt, a native San Diegan and Point Loma resident, as her way of giving back to her hometown in a meaningful, lasting way.
