DESCRIPTION:Thank you to our host SmithGroup for providing the space for our 2026 Design Film Series. \n“Arthur Elrod: Desert Cool” examines the life and untimely death of the influential Palm Springs interior designer whose work matched the sophisticated midcentury modern architecture rising in the desert and whose own home by architect John Lautner was immortalized in the Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever. \nSDAF’s quarterly film series showcases outstanding architecture and design documentaries from around the world\, giving members and the public a chance to discover new perspectives and revisit celebrated favorites. With “design” as the unifying thread\, the program spans an eclectic range of topics—from green living concepts to explorations of furniture making\, interiors\, food\, photography\, landscape architecture\, material sourcing\, and even airstream trailer design. The screenings offer a relaxed\, creative environment where attendees can sketch\, socialize\, and immerse themselves in fresh ideas that expand their sense of what design can be. \n

SUMMARY:OH!SD: Planning Committee Volunteer Orientation
DESCRIPTION:We’re getting ready for Open House San Diego 2027\, and we’re looking for people from across San Diego’s architecture\, design\, and broader community who would like to help shape this year’s program.\n\nOpen House is an annual program of the San Diego Architecture Foundation (SDAF) that gives the public an opportunity to explore great architecture\, urban spaces\, and neighborhoods throughout the region. The program is made possible by a volunteer Planning Committee that helps identify sites\, develop tours and events\, coordinate volunteers\, spread the word\, and bring the experience together.\n\nFor 2027\, we’re looking to expand Open House into more of a festival-style celebration of architecture and design\, with events leading up to the main site-tour days. We’re also exploring guided bus tours\, collaborations with other SDAF programs\, and new ways to engage people with San Diego’s built environment.\n\n\nWe’ll introduce the vision for Open House 2027\, share the different Planning Committee opportunities\, hear your ideas\, and help you find a role that fits your interests and availability.\n\nWe’d really love to see you in person if you can make it. It’s the best way to meet the group\, share ideas\, and get the year started. If you can’t attend in person\, no problem—a Zoom option will also be available.\n\nWe hope you’ll join us and help make Open House 2027 an exciting celebration of San Diego architecture and design!
